  1. What is the Guest Network?

    NASA Headquarters offers both wired and wireless Internet access to NASA Headquarters guests.

    Wireless access is available on all floors of the NASA Headquarters building. In addition to the general office areas and conference rooms, wireless access is available in the Library, Auditorium, and Columbia Cafe.

    Wired access is available in most conference rooms. Look for the yellow network cable labed "NASA Headquarters Guest Network".

    The NASA Headquarters Guest Network allows guest users to have basic web, VPN, and E-mail access. Printing is allowed to select printers inside the NASA Headquarers building. See the User Guides link above to find out how to print.

    You must obtain a username and password and authenticate using a web browser to use the Guest Network.

  1. Can my Guest/Visitor access the Guest Network?

Yes, that is the purpose of the guest network.

  1. Where is the Guest Network available?

    The Wireless Guest Network is available on all floors of the NASA Headquarters building.  There is coverage in the VITS Rooms, Auditorium, Libarary, offices, MIC rooms, The Columbia Cafe, and PODs.

    The Wired Guest Network is available in most of the MIC rooms. Look for the "yellow" cable marked "Guest Network".

  1. Can I print from the Guest Network?

  1. Can I get training? 

No, training is not available for Guest Network use.

  1. Can I use my NASA laptop on the Guest Network?

    Yes, this is an approved use of NASA headquarters issued laptops. NASA headquarters laptop users have been configured for wireless access unless they asked not to be configured. If you have questions, please contact your IT P.O.C.

  1. Can I use Guest Networks at other NASA Centers?

Each NASA Center has their own policy and infrastructure for supporting guest users.

  1. Can I use my Pocket PC on the Guest Network?
Yes, Pocket PC's can be configured to use the Guest Network if they have the appropriate network cards.

  1. What wireless cards are supported on the Wireless Guest Network?

In practice, any 802.11g wireless card should work on the Wireless Guest Network. The only official supported cards are listed below:

On Windows XP the following cards are supported:

  • HP W500 802.11a/b/g card
  • Cisco Aironet 802.11a/b/g Card (part no. AIR-CB21AG-A-K9)

On MacOS 10.3.4 the following card is supported:

  • Apple Airport Extreme Card

  1. How do I log into the Guest Network?

To log into the Guest Network start a web browser and enter the username and password you obtained for the Guest Network. You must also "check" the box indicating that you accept the Terms of Service (TOS) for the Guest Network.

  1. Do I need to use a RSA Token to login?

No,  RSA tokens are not required to log into the Guest Network.

  1. How do I request access to the Guest Network?

You must obtain a user name and password and authenticate using a web browser to use the Guest Network. You may obtain a user name and password from the following locations :

  • At the Security Desk in the West Lobby where visitors badges are obtained
  • From each organizations' IT POC.
  • From the User Resource Center (URC) located in CX42
  • by clicking here to obtain credentials and instructions. These credentials are valid from VALIDSTARTDATE until VALIDENDDATE.

The website http://guest.hq.nasa.gov has all the current information available on the NASA Headquarters Guest Networks.

  1. Can I access my network files from the Guest Network?

Yes, you can access your network files located on the private network if you have logged into the Guest Network. You must use the NASA HQ VPN Service or Secure Nomadic Access (https://sna.hq.nasa.gov) to access any information on the NASA HQ Private Network.

Guest Network users cannot access any internal Headquarters services.
